Moneyed elite should take part in national development

The Pakistan Economy Watch (PEW) on Sunday said that reintroduction of Wealth Tax can help government generate additional funds to the tune of billions.

Levying Wealth Tax on income exempted from taxes will help shrink undocumented economy, contain artificial hikes in property market, and help government meet budgetary targets, it said.

It will also channel funds to some critical but neglected sectors, said Dr. Murtaza Mughal, President, PEW.

Reintroduction of Wealth Tax demanded

Islamabad: [May 27]
The Pakistan Economy Watch (PEW) on Friday said that reintroduction of across the board Wealth Tax on affluent class of society can help government generate enormous funds.

Alternatively, government can consider levying Wealth Tax on exempted income like agriculture, capital gains, asset gains, and remittances, it said.

This will help shrink black economy, contain artificial hikes in property market, safeguard small investors, and help government it meet budgetary targets, said Dr. Murtaza Mughal, President, PEW.

Expenditure side is growing while income is sliding due to war on terror, performance of FBP and lack of financial discipline, he said while talking to tax and banking consultant Mohsin Rafique.

DO AND DON'T FOR IMAGING CENTER CLAIMS SUBMISSION

Do
make sure the beneficiary's name matches their ID card exactly.
Do
use the right modifiers. Make sure you have used the appropriate modifier (-51 is the most problematic, carriers say).
Do
list the Medicare identification number (UPIN) for the provider.

Don't
submit an operative report and a cover letter for claims filed with unlisted CPT codes or CPT codes with modifier 22, Unusual procedural service. Wait until the carrier sends a request for documentation. When the request comes in, then send your documentation to include the operative report and cover letter. Remember, the operative report is the documentation that describes the procedure performed for which there is no appropriate CPT code or explains what was unusual about the service to warrant additional payment to support modifer 22. The cover letter should detail the procedure performed, explain in layman's terms why the procedure was different, took a longer amount of time or why a higher skill level was required, as the clerk who reviews your claim may not have extensive medical knowledge. This is a change due to the mandatory electronic claim submission implemented by Medicare in July 2005.

New, improved tax model suggested

New, improved tax model suggested

Budget proposals have no significant impact

Tax burden on the poor is gradually increasing

Islamabad: [May 25]

The Pakistan Economy Watch (PEW) on Wednesday suggested an improved tax model that can generate adequate resources for the government without hampering economic growth and provide economic justice.

The new model can help transfer resources to public use in an efficient manner ensuring social justice for weaker sections of the society, it said.

Majority of budget proposals have no significant impact on economic growth as policymakers ignore it, said Dr. Murtaza Mughal, President, PEW adding that it is a useless exercise as unfair tax regulations continue to hurt the growth.

New IMF chief should be from developing world

Islamabad: May 20]
The Pakistan Economy Watch (PEW) on Friday said new managing director of International Monetary Fund (IMF) should be from the developing world.

This most important international institution has been facing credibility issues due selection of politicians to run the show, it said.

The new MD should not be a politician as there are many widely respected technocrats and governors of the central banks who would serve without political considerations, said Dr. Murtaza Mughal, President, PEW.

Israeli Jailors Poured Boiling Oil on Boy

The family added that its son spent most of his imprisonment term in solitary confinement and boiling oil was once poured on him by Israeli interrogators, so he suffers from serious physical and psychological scars as a result of that.

Beijing’s attitude to help Pakistan in the long run

Islamabad: [May 23]
The Pakistan Economy Watch (PEW) on Sunday said Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani’s visit to steadfast partner China has made it clear that Beijing wants us to do more to become self-reliant.

Chinese reluctance to provide cash support has not only brought limits of Beijing’s cooperation to the limelight but also given message that they are eager to help Pakistan to stand on its own two feet, it said.

It is time to realise that no country can offer unlimited charity and we should not always try to get more out of trusted friends, said Dr. Murtaza Mughal, President, PEW.

AMA Is Reseller of Cloud-Based Medical Software

May 18, 2011 — The American Medical Association (AMA) has gone into the business of helping physicians go paperless, and qualify for federal cash in the process.
At a Web portal operated by an AMA subsidiary called Amagine, physicians can access software for electronic health records (EHRs), e-prescribing, patient registries, and more, all with a single sign-on, as opposed to a separate user ID and password for each program. As part of the deal, consultants will help customers select and implement the programs. The AMA calls it a 1-stop shop for gearing up to earn as much as $44,000 under Medicare, and almost $64,000 under Medicaid, for "meaningful use" of an EHR.

Give Pakistan Credit instead of Blaming

Publicerad: 2011-05-16 20:05, Uppdaterad: 2011-05-16 21:05
I have just spent two months in Pakistan and it is impossible to do that without becoming familiar with the political and social infrastructure of this complex nation. I have strong reason to believe that the Pakistanis were instrumental in the operation that the Obama administration has taken the full credit for.
The suicide bomb attacks, which killed dozens of Pakistanis near Peshawar last week, are claimed, by the Taliban, to be a form of revenge for the killing of Usama bin Laden. But wasn't it the United States who killed him? If so, then why are the Pakistani's the first victims of the terror organisation's revenge? Although they frequently report on them, world medias tend to always focus less attention on terror attacks in Pakistan than on similar attacks in western countries. If the Taliban had struck in Cleveland Ohio or Atlanta Georgia we would have seen enormous media reports for days on end. The suicide explosion in Peshawar which killed about 80 people has been forgotten after one day of attention in the world medias.
